On the Day of Atonement or Yom Kippur, we fast (afflict ourselves) for 24 hours from evening to evening and do no work. It is celebrated on the tenth day of the seventh lunar month. “27Also on the tenth day of this seventh month there shall be a day of atonement: it shall be a holy convocation unto you; and ye shall afflict your souls, and offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD. 28And ye shall do no work in that same day: for it is a day of atonement, to make an atonement for you before the LORD your God. Leviticus 23:27-28.” We no longer need the blood sacrifice because our Messiah was the ultimate sacrifice for our sins.
